When they were taking a bath together, it felt like they were brothers hanging out. Sea and Jimmy have zero romantic chemistry.Even if the story weren't fun, they'd be fun to watch. They're just more confident in many ways that Sea and Jimmy can't yet match. First and Khao say so much without saying a word. They need more training and better direction. Sea and Jimmy are great but don't have the raw ability to carry such a weak show and weak characters.I honestly cannot fathom how they looked at what they were making and thought it would do better than something like The Eclipse. If you're going to write a story that heavily focuses on the romance between the characters, you need to really solidify the chemistry between them, and you need to create scenes that are strong and satisfying for the audience. There was a lot of potential in the concept for Vice Versa, but it ended up feeling like a slice of life with very little living. It's not the worst thing I've ever seen, but The Eclipse is just much, much better. I like both of the actors, but the characters are dull and hard to connect with. I don't believe the romance between the main two. Vice Versa is cute in its own right, but it's generally slow and awkward. It's an interesting show, with great editing and direction. The Eclipse is plot-heavy with strong chemistry from seasoned actors. I'm enjoying it, but it doesn't feel special and in the summer of one bazillion BLs that's a problem. Plus setting-wise they could have done something interesting with the alternate reality holding up a mirror to our society, which I guess they did have gay marriage being legal but mostly the differences have been for humor. Jimmy, but I don't know where it's going with itself and I don't understand Tun's behavior at all, and at this point I can't tell whether this will pay of later or it's just weak writing. Vice Versa I was excited about the fantasy elements and of course Dr. And importantly it's delivering well at both the school rivals to lovers chemistry and the themes of freedom and queerness. The way The Eclipse uses the school setting as a microcosm for society is very clever and I think helps with the appeal, since it has a strong political message like Not Me but would still keep the audience who likes a typical school setting and some suspense without as much action in terms of things like fight scenes. It even gives it character!įor me The Eclipse ended up being deeper than I expected, while Vice Versa feels shallower. Don't know how the story will go, but for now I'm having a blast! Yes, it does look much more low-budget than VV in aesthetic sense, but even though I usually pay a lot of attention to cinematography and set design, I don't mind the raw, unpolished look of The Eclipse at all. A no-ads BL is a rare unicorn, and I'm enjoying it to the max. On the other hand, The Eclipse has zero product placement, and I feel like the show breathes and is free to express itself. And I'm annoyed because I really loved the first episode A LOT (I'm a big fan of sci-fi and interesting concepts in general), but now, I feel like 40% of writing is dedicated to ads, which is bonkers. I can't believe the producers allowed that. I've never seen product placement that is as intrusive and brutal as in this show. Tbh, the sponsors ended up being the biggest enemy of Vice Versa. So yeah, it is definitely doing much better. Adding to that, The Eclipse is geoblocked on YT in Thailand and some other countries, which means it has even more additional views on Viu, while VV doesn't.
