There are other things too that we didn't do like a swimming pool and giant slide plus a race-track for mini-cars. Afterwards the kids played in the big inflatable air castle and had a blast. Later we visited the reptile exhibits and saw another demonstration with snakes and other reptiles and mammals. There are also hippos, rhino, lions and a black bear and giraffes though the giraffes are sequestered in an enclosure. You can see the animals up close and personal from your car - Spanish deer and Mouflon, African antelopes (Eland, Lechwe, Oryx), camels, zebras are all free roaming and will eat carrots out of your car. We moved on to the picnic area for our own lunch then took the wildlife drive. We had a great time starting with the aviary (raptor exhibition). Our 3 year old had an incredibly fun day with him and his friends. It WAS slow going at times but not interminable for us or the kids. We visited in early June on a sunny weekend and didn't have a terrible time with traffic as some have reported. I would budget an hour's drive to get there from Madrid centro. Safari Madrid is a bit out of the way from Madrid and we had never heard of it but a large group of parents and kids all went together. Pleasantly surprised with the visit, it’s good value for money it’s under an hours drive from the airport area of Madrid and I would recommend the place! Even our teenage kids enjoyed it - at 15 & 16 that’s not an easy task! The reptile enclosures, mini zoo and aviary areas are also very good - look for the loose floorboards over the crocodile area! The commentary was in Spanish, (being your typical ignorant English tourist I understood none of it) however it was still very entertaining and impressive! The bird show is a must, we attended at 13:00 and watched a great flying display of various birds from condors, vultures, hawks. There is a large variety of animals, Lions, Tigers, Hippos to name a few, all looked in good health and well cared for. We were fortunate enough to get the entire tour through all the safari areas in a small convoy of three cars. Initially driving to the ‘drive through’ safari area I was a bit apprehensive but once we were inside and saw the animals roaming around that soon changed. We arrived early around 10:30 and it had just opened, family ticket for 4 was a little over €70, friendly staff at the gate, (spoke a little English). ![]() We set out to visit a beach area nearby which didn’t look too appealing as we drove past, (can’t comment on the beach area as we only drove past the parking bay!) We came across the Madrid Safari by accident and decided to have a look. 2) The wait to be served some simple burgers and sandwiches at the cafeteria "Friend Company Rock" was excessively long. French, depending on existing attendance from francophone countries. The Park should work on this to attract greater attendance of international clientele. Two observations 1): the quality of translation into English of the explanations in the mini-zoo and reptile house is very erratic, ranging from clearly understandable to atrocious. Every kid living in the Madrid vicinity or visiting from outside or abroad should visit this park. Demonstration and detailed biological explanations of the evolution of reptiles, but the crowning event unquestionably was the demonstration of falconry superbly mastered by Jose-Maria Cabrera. Elephants, Giraffes, Lions, Tigers (the latter safely enclosed behind strong fences) also on view. Driving through wide, fenced-in enclosures, you can buy carrots to feed the free-roaming animals directly from your car window: deer, gazelles, dromedaries, zebras, ostriches and many more. Three days before school re-starts and we took our 5-year-old grandson to this splendid zoological installation about one hour's drive southwest of Madrid. ![]()
